Research Interests
In my opinion, research interests in scientific world could be broadly two types:
1. Curiosity driven research & 2. Target oriented research
Curiosity driven research may not be directly impacting the society but it will tremendously help the researcher to grow "the scientist" inside them. On the other hand, target oriented research are generally relatable to the solutions existing problems, however, it takes longer time.
In ideal scenario it should be resonance of your curiosity about practical problems.
